Remee Jo Lee was so excited that she was pregnant. She thought John was too. Sadly, she was wrong. He told her she had an infection and needed to take some medication 3 times a day. His father is apparently an OB/GYN and they went to his clinic for her sonogram. After she took just one pill, she had abdominal cramps and bleeding. She had to go to the hospital, where she lost the baby. The doctors there verified that the pills were not antibiotics, but rather, abortion pills. Her whole world was turned upside-down, to say the least. John Andrew Welden was indicted under the federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act. He pled guilty rather than going to trial, since he had a chance of a life sentence. Now, he has to serve at least 13 years. He will be sentenced in December. But his lawyer said something that truly angered me. He said, “Obviously it’s tragic all around from every angle”. Umm, this was NOT tragic for his client, except that he got caught. He did not want her to have the baby, so he made sure it did not happen. How is it “tragic” for him? Saying it was tragic implies that he was feeling pain and sorrow for losing the baby. He wasn’t. He deserves a life sentence, but at least it is a federal charge, which means no early release. The federal system no longer has parole. I feel no sympathy for him. However, my heart goes out to Remee Jo Lee. I hope she will be able to put this behind her, as hard as it is, and find true love one day.
