A Young Man Gave His Car Keys to His Roommate and Went to Sleep – the Next Thing He Knew, He Was in Cuffs for Murder
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 7, 2017) — Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen investigates how a little-known law called the Felony Murder Rule landed Ryan Holle behind bars for the murder of 18-year-old Jessica Snyder. Holle lent his car to his roommate, who, along with three acquaintances, drove to Snyder’s house and brutally killed her during a burglary. Although Holle did not plan or participate in the crime and was not present, he was charged for the same crimes as the other men, including first-degree murder. Under the Felony Murder Rule, if someone gets killed during the course of certain felonies, all participants take equal responsibility. Because Holle lent his car to the men, he was deemed a participant. “I was floored…How could I get in trouble for something? I was never at the scene of the crime,” Holle asks in a prison interview with Crime Watch Daily. Holle admits he had overheard the men talk about burglarizing Snyder’s home and their plan to knock out Snyder if she was home, but insists he never thought the plan was real. “There was no reality in my mind that this was something that could actually happen. Absolutely not,” Holle admits. Prosecutors argue that in addition to hearing about their plan, Holle even let the men borrow bandanas. “He knew when they left the house with his car that they were going to use it to commit a burglary – and also if Jessica was there, she might be harmed,” argues former Prosecutor David Rimmer.
