Alice, the defendant, wrote letters to her husband, who was in Vietnam at the time, telling him how much she hated this child and how she beat him, and wanted to kill him. But he did not believe that she would really do these things. He basically thought she was venting. He even believed it was an accident when the boy died. He did not know about all of the bruises and the bite-marks. The couple later divorced and even had a custody fight over their daughter. Alice also wanted to know what happened to her letters, but he never told her anything. When the cold case unit reopened Earl’s case, his dad turned over the letters, which helped to give enough evidence to charge her. I don’t care how old she is, she needs to take responsibility for what she did to that poor little boy and pay the consequences. Any sentence she gets will basically be a life sentence since she is 75 now. But he could have had a whole life if she had not done this.
